How to tune a bass
- Choose the tuning that matches your bass. Standard four-string tuning is E1 A1 D2 G2, from the thickest string to the thinnest.
- Press Start tuning and allow microphone access. Play one open string gently, mute the others, and let the initial attack settle.
- Auto selects the nearest target string. If the bass is far out of tune, switch Auto off and tap the string you are playing.
- Turn the tuning peg in small steps. When the meter shows In tune, move to the next string, then check all strings again.
A five-string bass adds B0 below E1. Select 5-string Standard before tuning; the five targets are B0 E1 A1 D2 G2.

Drop D on bass
Four-string Drop D lowers only the lowest string from E1 to D1; the other strings remain A1 D2 G2. Select Drop D (4-string), loosen the lowest string gradually, and check the other three strings afterwards.
FAQ
Can I tune a bass without microphone access?
Yes. Tap a string on the tuner to hear its target note. Compare it with one open string at a time; Keep playing can sustain a reference for up to 30 seconds.
Why is the lowest string difficult to detect?
Microphones can capture very low notes weakly. Move closer, mute the other strings, and let one note ring. If the reading remains uncertain, compare with a reference tone rather than tightening blindly.
Can I use a different reference pitch?
Yes. Open settings and choose A4 between 415 and 466 Hz. All target frequencies change with it. Use the reference required by the musicians you are playing with.
